2. Implementation

This is a 3D printed incubator, ideal for a classroom demonstration or fun project with the kids.

The base of the unit acts as a water reservoir, the onboard Temperature and Humidity Sensor monitors the environment. BLOX will control the temperature and monitor the humidity. Chicken eggs needs a constant 36-37degC environment with around 60% Humidity for the first 18 days, and then 70-80 percent humidity for the last 3 days. Eggs hatch in 21 days. By controlling the water level in the chambers in the base you can correct the humidity if required (fill up 2/4 for the first 18 days, fill all 4/4 for the last 3 days), though usually just filled every couple days.

It also comes with a removable rolling frame, used to turn the eggs using the BLOX and a RC Servo. The BLOX firmware controls the moving of the frame that gently rolls the eggs. Eggs should be turned once per hour or no less than once every 6 hours, this helps with development. By day 18 the frame is removed, as the chicks fill the egg completely, and are preparing to hatch, you remove the frame to give them free roam after hatching. Leave the chicks in the incubator for approx 24hrs or until throroughly dry before moving to the brooding area.
